DREAM AND SUBCONSCIOUS

 The outline in all of the pieces is drawn out of a single line, to create a sense of continuity and depict the uncertain, plastic nature of dreams. I have adopted a cubist style, inspired by Pablo Picasso, to depict the distorted space and time in my dreams. Each piece shows one of the themes in my dreams, corresponded to the colours, objects and colouring techniques I have incorporated: past and memory – yellow and brown, clock, camera, compass, film, varied patterns in colouring; simplicity – dull colours, simple geometric shapes, simple colouring techniques; growth and vitality– green, plant, blending of bubbles that emulates cell reproduction; fear and confusion – purple, mouth and eyes (symbolize criticism from others), curved strokes to create dizziness; love and happiness – red, heart and flowers, sharp transition between gradients to create a sense of rhythm; future and freedom – blue, clouds and wings, circular strokes to emulate clouds.
